Swimwear Fickle

Hey everyone! It's Sharry! How is everyone? Me? Oh yeah, no, I'm fine, perfectly fine...except for the fact that it's summer and I have a pool party this weekend to go to and I still don't have the perfect swimsuit for it or any swimsuit for the summer which I'm going to be spending most my time in when I go to Seattle for the first two weeks of July...so nah not really...I'm in a frantic fickle...help me?

I've been looking up online and at stores and I've found a lot of cute pieces but I wasn't sure which one to get because the last thing you want to do is be in a swimsuit and feel uncomfortable and wish you bought a different one. So, since I couldn't find the exact replicas of the ones I saw in some stores I'll give you a basic idea of what I saw.

Let's begin shall we? :)

For starters I don't really like one pieces...I don't know why but they don't look flattering on me and it doesn't feel really comfortable either :P Tankinis and regular two pieces are what I lean forward to more

so these two are just regular type swimsuits. I really like them because of their bandeau tops and the one on the left is ruffled and pretty but the one on the right is polka-dotted with daisies.

Then we have this bathing suit with a cute top and boyfriend underwear type bottom going on. And the pattern is really cool. And when you look at the bottoms you see on the side this cool pattern type thing.

I think this one is weird and cute at the same time but I can't decide. The top is really cool...it looks like a bustier which interests me a lot. But I'm not sure about the pattern. I don't know :P

Then we get to these last three which I'm pretty much in love with this style! It's very retro and cute.
So, what do you guys think? And sorry for my frantic sounding post haha I think I'll be calm in a little bit.

Oh and also on my personal blog, Under Peach Trees, I did a D.I.Y. of how to make jeans into shorts which is perfect if you live on this side of the world cuz it's summer :D and a hot one at that!

I hope you all have an awesome Thursday!!!

help wanted? summer proof makeup

hey its coco. so question to all of you readers- whether you check our blog and follow us or if you are just stopping by for a moment. as some of the previous posts have sad i LOVE-ADORE(-and many other synonyms) makeup.

i'm going to be working outside this summer being a lifeguard/swim instuctor most likely so i'm interested in what you guys consider the best WATERPROOF or SWEATPROOF makeup?? being in the sun all day is going to be challenge enough since i burn super (super) easily...

luckily i have some ideas of how to get a tan instead (see our previous post "getting golden this summer") but i have no idea what to wear makeup wise in order to look good while sweating and being in the water.

if you have any ideas of what i can invest in (thats cheap) and summer-proof i'd love to hear it!
post any ideas in the comments sections. plus if you have anything you'd like us to post on leave it in the comments. i don't mind investigating and experimenting if you guys have questions about makeup, tanning, books, music etc.

thanks everyone. have a splendid day.

summer lists-reading

hey its coco and with a lot of people starting summer here's a little of what i'm doing. so i spent a ton of my mama's money. and by that i mean like $15 on a couple books this last weekend at half price books. the books i got our my summer reading for these up coming months. like any intelligent girl with limited time i intend to make my reading time count. so i got books that i think i can apply to my life.

the first book i got "he's just not that into you" which i have made my read while i tan book and to say its amazing is an understatement. its witty and truthful. boy i could have saved a lot of heartache reading this earlier! i haven't finished it yet, but let me inform you a little bit about what it is about.

the book focuses on a man's perspective of all the excuses that women use to say that a man is interested in them, but not dating/getting into a relationship with a woman. its very VERY funny. i highly encourage all girls, women, females, and heck maybe even some males to read it!

the second book i got is "act like a lady, think like a man" which i haven't started reading, but i love the guy who wrote it (steve harvey)! he was very funny when i saw him on jimmy fallon the other night (you can watch the interview here) plus it was recently made a movie (ironic since so was he's just not into you)... anyways i'll review that one when i finally get to reading it! however i think i'll probably like it since one of my mottos in life is "i never said i was a lady, just a woman".

the last book i got was "fashion inside out" by daniel vosovic. some of you know daniel vosovic from project runway: season 2 (he was the runner-up i think... he was at least top three and ahh i loved him). this i don't think is being made a movie, however, the author was on a reality tv show so i think that kind of counts? haha and from what i saw when i looked through it, it looks really informative. it takes the reader from inspiration to sketches to samples to runway to getting the collection bought by the fashion buyers. plus theres this weird fuzzy texture on the cover so i kind of had to get it!

add in my massive amount of issues of elle, harpers bazar, etc. that i haven't even opened yet, and i have lots (LOTS) to read this summer.

anyways what are you guys reading this summer? got any good suggestions? post 'em in the comments! i do need some other books to read to add on to my list :)

have a good day and happy reading!\

fake it til you make it-tan

hey its coco.
now i'm a makeup junkie. i love makeup and clothes (its kind of why i want to be a costume stylist in the future!). so i figured after my last post on tanning i should do one on how to fake a tan... so heres how to be a golden god, minus the sun :)

first the makekup...
so i love bronzer (maybe a little too much...) and it is a great way to brighten your face and it give it a golden glow sans sun. using the right bronzer is based on a couple things. first and most important, you're foundation.

remember when applying makeup to keep your textures similar, so if you use a powder foundation, use a powder bronzer, if its a liquid foundation, you should use a liquid bronzer. also i personally try to keep my bronzer the same brand as my foundation... i'm not sure why but i just find it helps it look more natural to me.
how to contour your face with makeup
how to contour your face with makeupsince i use either maybelline new york dream matte mousse foundation or elf tinted moisturizer. i use elf studio bronzer in golden bronzer. i love that bronzer because it has 4 colors. a very light highlight, a dark contour, and 2 warm light tan colors. i love that i can do contour and make a normal looking tan on my face, but also give my cheekbones a lift so they look awesome.

contoured bronze
if you don't know how to use a bronzer let me explain. using the triangle of light you can see where a tan would naturally show up on your face because its where the sun would hit (the dark parts). using the picture to the left, 1 is the darkest color you have in your palette. i use it on my cheekbones and jawline. i use my two medium browns on my forehead and lightly on my nose and then slighltly on my cheekbones (next to the darkest color bronze). for your highlights (2 on the picture) use your lightest color. most of the other colors are 3-6 your eye shadows. for a true step by step and not my quick jumble of directions, hit up this website.

all over glow??
to get an all over glow i recommend using a liquid foundation... heres a little quiz, if you use a liquid foundation you should use a .... bronzer? yep, thats right, liquid. i don't really used liquid bronzer a lot but heres one i found online. heres how to add the glow.
put 3 parts your foundation, 1 part liquid bronzer, mix them up so you have enough to cover your face. make sure to also sprinkle a little bronzer on your chest bones. by mixing foundation with bronzer, it helps give a natural glow.

my recommendation if you aren't a makeup guru, but have lots of money??
get a spray tan. i love spray tans from sun tan city. i don't know if has a sun tan city near them (but you can check here). if there isn't a sun tan city near you find a tanning salon with a versa spa (the thing that tans you). now i know you've probably heard that spray tans are orange-y or you've seen that episode of friends where ross does it wrong and looks awful! but the versa spa has been infused with green particles to counteract any orange color. i've done this multiple times and i've never come out orange. always tan-ly brown! later on i'll be doing a post on how to spray tan smart and help resolve any orange tans you've gotten...

hopefully this helps you out :)
got any fun fake tan stories?? put them in the comments! we love to read everyone's stories :)

have a great day

getting golden this summer

hey everyone!
its coco. so now that its summertime i figured we should do a thing on skin with the summer. now while a lot of you probably want to be bronze gods after a day, its better to tan smart that way you look good today and when later on in life... with us feeling like bronze is better (look at all these adds and photos i found on pinterest if you don't believe me) i thought a post on how to protect your skin, get a tan, keep a tan, and help your skin after a burn would be good.

what do you need to succeed??
Solbar Zinc Unscented Sun Protection Cream with Transparent Zinc Oxide SPF 38 Australian Gold SPF 15 Continuous Spray Bronzer, 6 Ounce-sunscreen. preferably with zinc or parasol. both really protect against the evil sun (UV rays)... for your face, get a one thats about 20spf or higher for daily use in the summer. my tinted moisturizer is spf 20, so its in my daily makeup routine. when i know i'll be out in the sun i use my bath and body works trueblue spf 29 broad spectrum sun screen with parasol. its even recommended by the skin cancer foundation. (check to see if your sunscreen is on their list of recommended sunscreens here.) for my shoulders and neck/chest i use solbar zinc sunscreen spf 38. its important to protect your neck/chest because the skin there is SUPER delicate. so a good sunscreen protects against sunspots and aging... for the rest of my body i use australian gold spf 15 spray sunscreen with instant bronzer. it gives light coverage for legs, arms, and torso that don't burn as easily so that you can get a tan and the bronzer helps jump start a golden look for the parts of your body that haven't seen sun in a VERY long time :)

to get a golden tan??
Australian Gold Bronzing Dry Oil Spray Intensifier-well i stick to the classics. i use baby oil on my legs because not only does the oil attract sun and cook my legs (literally) but it also helps make them look great for my swimsuit! i also use australian gold tanning oil with no spf at all on my arms, lightly on my face, and on my legs. (i like to really get my legs golden) its important to hit up your legs with tanning oil because other than your face, its where your skin changes the most often. it gets exfoliated when you shave so you get new skin cells each time, so by really getting them tan you won't lose your tan!

also remember not to overdose on the sun. get it in small doses. for me since i burn easily, i start off the my summer tan by only tanning in the mornings hours and in increments of 20 minutes.  and flipping. also remember to drink water when you tan. spraying water on your skin while you layout can help build a tan as well.

tip: a fun way to get a tan?? a water park. by getting in a pool the water reflects the sun so you get a tan in half the time. wave pools and lazy rivers are especially fun since you can gossip with friends while you lay there.  remember to reapply sunscreen lots as to not burn to death (a wave pool is how i got my 2nd/3rd degree sunburns) and also remember to stay hydrated when you are out in the sun and tanning.

keep the tan??
i use my australian gold moisture lock tan extender or any other lotion to keep my skin super moisturized. water and lotion are key to keeping a tan beautiful!
so if you over tan and go lobster??
Aloe Freeze Spray Gelwhen i burn, which is often because i'm a irish girl with the skin of a ginger i use australian gold aloe freeze gel. i've become quite an expert at getting over a tan because i burn so often and get such awful burns (i've gotten second and almost third degree burns). plus my brother is a lifeguard so between the two of us i have learned how to recover from an awful burn... heres some tips so you can stop feeling the burn...

1. hydrate. water yourself so your skin is hydrated too!

2. get some lotion on that burn. heck get LOTS of lotion on that burn. remember to use one infused with vitamin e, aloe or a combo of both. also try to get unscented because extra crap in lotion can really aggravate a burn. i use australian gold moisture lock tan extender (if you haven't noticed i'm a australian gold junkie because the stuff all smells awesome and does the job right)
Australian Gold Moisture Lock Tan Extender, 16 fl oz

3. i use tons of aloe. not only do i have use my australian gold aloe freeze gel, but i also own an aloe plant so i can get the natural healing properties without the added junk. i highly recommend in investing in an aloe plant. they're really difficult to kill and true aloe works wonders on skin. (but stinks/tastes horrible so wash your hands before eating chicken nuggets or anything)

4. now i haven't tried this lots but last summer i got this epic burn all over my shoulders and arms. and i used tea to remedy it. sounds weird right? well what you do is boil water like you are making tea. get a package of tea (i just used individual lipton packets) and put them in the boiled water, but just for a couple of seconds, just so all the tea leaves inside the pack are moist. then take the packet and rub it on your burn. if it kind of dries put it in the hot water again... after you have covered all your burns with the tea liquid, open up the packet and rub the leaves on the burns directly (i recommend doing this in a shower or bathtub cause its messy!) this turned my awful burns into a tan in a couple days.

5. another thing i did during this time of awful burns was use about one - two cups of vinegar in a warm bath. soak in that for 20 or 30 minutes. it really helps soothe the burns (but you smell a little nasty)

6. the last thing i tried is to put a cold milk compress on burns. this works best right after you get the burn because it helps release some of the heat. you probably want to shower after though because again milk doesn't smell to great after a while.

7. don't go crazy picking at peeling skin or poking blisters from the sun. that just leaves more damage and causes more harm. keep lotion on any peeling skin (again-no fragrance lotion!!) to help keep the new sensitive skin from getting super damaged)

8. if you want to get intense moisture and soft skin use vitamin e capsules. just pop them open and put the vitamin e on your skin. vitamin e helps reduce the appearance of lines and blemishes as well as scars and also helps lock in moisture. it can be super great on sunburns.

final notes...
remember when tanning to avoid tanning during 11- 3pm because the sun will be hitting you hardest then and its harder to not burn.

another health note... as many as 36% of all americans are vitamin d deficent (a vitamin you get from the sun) so if you avoid the sun a lot ask your doctor about on your next visit...  it really helps your skin and the rest of your body (you can read all of its benefits here)

i encourage everyone to read this article about tanning... its right here

hopefully you found this post informative, useful, and slightly entertaining...
got any good fun in the sun stories?? put them in the comments. we love to read them :)

talk to you guys soon! have a great day and get golden!
coco

disclaimer: i feel the need to say this just in case, but there is no such thing as a healthy tan. all tans are a result of damage to skin.(read this article i linked above already if you don't believe me) and if you have questions consult an actual dermatologist. this post is not a substitute for a medical professional. the sun can have damaging effects like sun poisoning and cause exhaustion. if you have symptoms of something more serious than a normal sunburn call up a doctor. doctors should be consulted on serious burns. basically this is just us talking about how we get tan and recover when we burn, consult a doctor if you need one because we aren't medical professionals, just girls who get burnt a lot :)

a little combination

hey everyone. its coco. so my fashion style is defiantly similar but not the same as sharry's! if it had to be put into very few words, i would say comfy. cute. i like to dress how i feel. so some days im in a dress, cardigan, with a belt. but other times i feel the need to wear only sweats and a tank top. all my images are taken from mystyleblend board on pinterest so none of them are really me, but its all my favorite stuff!

this outfit is always in my head... now i want itbut my favorite outfit would have to be anything with a maxi skirt. i love my black maxi skirt. my style is for sure boho-but still sometimes a blazer or dress. i rock mine with lots of stuff, but usually a cropped shirt like a v-neck white shirt.

Head ScarvesMaxi is really just my obsession, but another obsession is hair. i love these scarfs like this... (to the left)

to get what patterns i like think these basic three words.
...zig-zag, feather, lace....

i really like the more normal-boho look. although honestly i'm usually in a t-shirt and shorts!

heres a picture overload of what i love! hope you enjoy. i'll be posting about my makeup obsessions very soon! love. coco

very cute!! Wish i had that belly to go with it :)

Aztec Peep Toe Wedgesi love this back. so pretty, so detailed. i love it love
